Our Financial Regulation Team is one of largest in the UK with a mix of lawyers and compliance professionals split over London, Leeds and Edinburgh. The Team has a very strong reputation for regulated lending and banking and is ranked Tier 1 in Chambers and Partners for Consumer Finance. The Team also has a very strong Payments practice, considered to be one of the leading Payments practices in the UK.
In addition to its consumer finance and Payments practices, the Team has a strong and growing wider financial regulation practice. This practice covers other aspects of financial services regulation including non-retail banking activity, insurance, wealth and asset management, and funds and fund management. The broader practice is called 'Financial Markets'. In terms of topic areas Financial Markets covers client money, regulatory capital and prudential, mis-selling of insurance or other products, distribution chains, customer communications including contractual relationships, funds regulation and distribution, the regulatory aspects of M&A transactions and assisting clients dealing with regulatory interventions.

We are seeking an Associate (3 PQE +) to join our high performing and busy team with excellent prospects for career development. We have a strong reputation for providing lawyers with early levels of responsibility within a supportive and stretching environment. Therefore anyone taking up this role can expect to have the opportunity to play a significant role in working for clients that are key to the Division and to the firm.
Our various Financial Regulation practices work closely together, but the candidate we are seeking will probably predominantly be working with Financial Markets colleagues, looking to support and develop that side of our practice.
The successful candidate will have
Excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree
Financial Regulation experience gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level
Clear understanding and working experience of the operation and structure of a leading law firm and the needs of the clients of a top flight team
You will be a 3 PQE + Associate and be able to demonstrate an appropriate understanding of the technical regulations that the FM practice we have described might deal with.
Most importantly, you should have a real and genuine interest in this area and be keen to grow that knowledge in a proactive way.
You would be someone who welcomes new challenges and relishes the opportunity to work in new and developing areas.
You should be adept at in building strong client relationships, but also like working in a team.
